BCS Reaffirmations

Posted by akyams on November 26, 2008

On the BCS website they have a section dedicated to quotes from various football and sports media sources. These quotes serve as reaffirmations much like Al Franken’s Stuart Smalley character of Saturday Night Live fame. Stuart is a character with few redeeming qualities, save his optimism and belief that he has something to offer despite all of the evidence to the contrary.

One quote on this page struck me as particularly ridiculous. Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times and a regular on ESPN’s sports discussion panel show, “Pardon the Interruption” was cited as saying:

“Even those longtime BCS critics like myself have to finally admit that the imperfect system has perfectly transformed the sport from a Saturday afternoon cookout to a national obsession.” — Bill Plaschke, Los Angeles Times, Nov. 6, 2008

This is nothing more than a backhanded compliment that the BCS people didn’t see through. The “national obsession” he’s talking about is the discussion about how horribly exclusive the BCS is. They just chose to ignore that fact and pretend that since everyone’s talking about it, the BCS must be awesome! Jackasses…

Format change!

Starting today, this blog will be focusing on the College Football Bowl Championship Series and the inherent evil that it represents. Hopefully DWBCS will serve as a forum/support group  for the millions of sports fans who are perennially disappointed and frustrated by the current BCS system.
