Down With The BCS

A blog dedicated to the downfall of the College Football Bowl Championship Series

About “Down with the BCS”

“Down with the BCS” is a blog dedicated to bashing the BCS and exposing it for what it is. DWBCS firmly believes that a playoff system is only way to fairly decide on a true College Football National Champion. While we recognize that college sports is an industry like any other, we feel that everyone can make there many without compromising the spirit of competition in college athletics. Our goal is to call out who is responsible, make a legitimate, realistic case for a playoff and to dream of what could be.

Why is the BCS so horrible? People still love to watch college football, right?

People deal with the BCS because they love football, present company included. The BCS is a terrible, awful, ridiculous system, but the alternative of doing something else rather than watching football on a cold autumn Saturday is far less appealing.

The reason the BCS is so atrocious is the exclusivity. Many teams start the season knowing that they have absolutely no chance of being crowned national champion. There are certain teams that could win every one of their games 100-0 and still not be granted a shot to compete for the title. This fact makes the current BCS system an enemy of the spirit of competition in sports.

The BCS is all about revenue for the universities, sponsors, conferences and TV networks. While high profile college athletics is an industry, there is no explanation for why it must come at the expense of the integrity of competition due to a system based on favortism and exclusivity.
